Chicago lags behind major cities that have audio signals at street crossings for blind pedestrians. Boston has more than 300. Chicago has 18.

In 2019, Mayor Lori Lightfoot said Chicago would add crossing signals with audible tones for blind and low vision pedestrians at up to 50 intersections in the next two years. Today though, such crossing signals are installed at only 18 intersections, with only seven added since the announcement.
