Speeding car hits tree, splits in half, killing driver and closing Lake Shore Drive south of 31st Street for hours

The driver of a speeding car died when the car went out of control, hit a tree and was split in half on Lake Shore Drive south of 31st Street in a crash that also critically injured the passenger in the car, Chicago police said.
